Common Mistakes to Avoid When Working with Epoxy Resin

Epoxy resin is a versatile material used in flooring, art, countertops, and more. But it’s also highly sensitive to application errors. Whether you’re a beginner or have some experience, here are the 7 most common mistakes and how to avoid them:

1. Poor Surface Preparation
Skipping grinding or cleaning leads to poor adhesion. Always prep thoroughly.

2. Wrong Mixing Ratios
Even a slight miscalculation in resin and hardener can cause soft spots or improper curing. Use a digital scale.

3. Mixing Too Fast
Fast mixing introduces bubbles. Stir gently and evenly for at least 3–5 minutes.

4. Working in the Wrong Temperature
Too cold? The epoxy thickens. Too hot? It cures too fast. Ideal room temperature: 20–25°C (68–77°F).

5. Pouring Too Thick
Each layer should not exceed the recommended depth. For deep pours, do multiple layers.

6. Ignoring Pot Life
Epoxy has a limited working time. Only mix what you can apply within that period.

7. Not Using the Right Tools
Spiked rollers, proper gloves, and good lighting make a world of difference.
